Changing Investor Attitudes About Emerging Markets (CNBC)

Grant Forster, the  CEO (Australia) at Principal Global Investors, recently appeared on CNBC to discuss the firm’s survey (see: Emerging Markets in the East Converging With Developed Markets in the West (Create Research)) where more than half of the 704 sovereign wealth fund, pension fund and other institutional asset manager respondents said they were positive about emerging markets, including China. However, only 20% believed emerging markets assets should be a core part of their portfolios, down from 40% two years ago while 30% of asset managers were “non-believers” in emerging markets, up from 20% two years ago.

The survey also found that investors are approaching emerging markets with less of a buy and hold mentality and more of an opportunistic attitude:
