American investors have several good options to invest in South Korean stocks through NYSE or NASDAQ listed South Korea ADRs. These include: Korea Electric Power Corporation (NYSE: KEP) or KEPCO which generates South Korea’s electric power; KT Corporation (NYSE: KT) provides integrated telecommunications services; SK Telecom Co Ltd (NYSE: SKM) provides wireless communication services; steel giant POSCO (NYSE: PKX) also owns PT Krakatau POSCO (Indonesia); KB Financial Group, Inc (NYSE: KB), Shinhan Financial Group Co. Ltd. (NYSE: SHG) and Woori Finance Holdings Co Ltd (NYSE: WF) dominate the Korean financial services sector; Gravity Co LTD (NASDAQ: GRVY) is the developer and publisher of online games mainly in South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, and internationally; and LG Display Co Ltd (NYSE: LPL) develops, manufactures and sells display and related accessories.
In addition, NYSE listed South Korea closed-end funds included the now liquidated Korea Equity Fund Inc (NYSE: KEF) from Nomura Holdings, Inc and Korea Fund Inc (NYSE: KF) from JPMorgan Chase & Co which has Samsung Electronics as it’s biggest holding. American investors should note that various Samsung listed entities appear to be available on the OTC market, but they are actually London listed South Korean GDRs.
