Investing in India ADRs / Indian Stocks List

Approximately a dozen Indian ADRs trade on major US stock exchanges along with a few additional Indian stocks that have OTC listings. These include large BPO or IT outsourcing MNCs like Infosys Ltd (NYSE: INFY)Wipro Limited (NYSE: WIT) and WNS Holdings Limited (NYSE:WNS) that tend to have more exposure to the US and global economies because of their global presence rather than the domestic Indian economy which Internet stocks like MakeMyTrip Limited (NASDAQ: MMYT), Rediff.com India Limited (NASDAQ: REDF) and Sify Technologies Limited (NASDAQ: SIFY) would have. Unfortunately, the two big Indian telecommunications stocks Tata Communications Limited (OTCMKTS: TTCMY) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (OTCMKTS: MTENY) no longer trade on the big boards and are now lightly traded OTC stocks. Finally, there are two India closed-end funds, The India Fund, Inc (NYSE: IFN) and Morgan Stanley India Investment Fund Inc (NYSE: IIF), plus investors should also check out our India ETF list, BICK ETF list, BRIC ETF list, China/India ETF list and South Asia ETF list as some multi-region or multi-country ETFs invest in Indian stocks.

Note: If there are any ADRs to add or remove from these lists or there are bad links, please write a note in the comments section so it can be fixed. Likewise, adding any other comments or advice would also be appreciated.

India Stock Markets

Most of the stock trading in the Indian stock market takes place on two Indian stock exchanges: 1) The BSE Ltd (Bombay Stock Exchange) which is the largest and oldest (founded in 1875) exchange in India; and 2) The NSE (National Stock Exchange of India Ltd) which was founded in the early 1990s and offers a modern, fully automated screen-based trading system. Most major Indian stocks will maintain a listing on both stock exchanges plus there are a large number of smaller Indian stock exchanges (a list of which is available here) in various big cities around the country.
