The OTC listed Banco de Guayaquil SA (OTCMKTS: BGYQY) was the only Ecuador ADR, but its now delisted from the OTC where it was not actively traded. Given Ecuador’s recent political history and uncertain politics, foreign investors would want to be cautious about investing in Ecuador. From 2007 to 2017, investors need to be aware that Ecuador was ruled by Rafael Correa who allied the country with other Leftist Latin American governments like those in Cuba, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Venezuela. He was succeeded by Lenín Boltaire Moreno Garcés who, despite his first name, tried to distance himself from Correa’s legacy only to be defeated by the first centre-right Presidential candidate to win an election in two decades.
